Overview:
The purpose of this broadcast is to review clinical issues and research findings in the treatment of combat-related PTSD, which led to the application of readiness to change concepts to PTSD; review research on readiness to change PTSD among inpatient combat veterans; present an overview of the PTSD Motivation Enhancement Group; and describe a proposed model of PTSD treatment failure based on the Stages of Change model.
Goals:
After the completion of this program, participants should be able to:
- discuss a Stages of Change model of readiness to change PTSD, and the relevance of this model to client response to treatment;
- describe research findings regarding readiness to change PTSD;
- explain the rationale and techniques of the PTSD Motivation Enhancement Group, a brief therapy intervention aimed at reducing patients' ambivalence about changing PTSD symptoms; and
- describe a proposed model of PTSD treatment failure based on a readiness to change conceptualization.
